“First we form habits

Then they form us.” ~ J. Rohm Not All Habits Are Created Equally Monday March 19, 2018 “A bad habit never disappears miraculously.   It’s an undo-it-yourself project.”   ~Abigail Van Buren Bad habits. . . we all have them.   Don’t allow yourself to feel remorseful next time you exercise a bad habit.   Find the positive in the habit and do it again!   The following 3 “Bad Habits” are a great way to start. Drinking coffee :   Many of us start our day off with a cup or two of this “magic elixir,” and wouldn’t dream of interacting with anyone until we do.   Stick with that habit and drink your coffee in moderation.   Have you heard the good news?   It is widely accepted that caffeine can speed up your metabolism and reduce your risk of gallstones and kidney stones.   Some may believe that drinking coffee might lead to our next good for you bad habit; Fidgeting:   Do you have a hard time sitting still?   Fidgeters, fear not! Let's run that March Lion out of town.

Aren't lambs so much more cuddly? I've Got the Power! Monday Month 12, 2018    Slow down and enjoy life.  It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast, you also miss the sense of where you are going and why.  ~ Eddie Cantor This past week many of us experienced the fierce Lion roaring in the month of March. Thanks to Mother Nature and her not so gentle cue, we were reminded that we are not "in charge." These early March winter storms created long-term power outages and separated us from our electricity, Internet, cable and plumbing.  By the third night of living like a Pilgrim we began to get the hang of it.   Did you embrace the powerless life?  Were you able to reconnect with family or pets, pick up an old hobby such as; reading an actual book, play a board game or have a face-to-face conversation?  Wasn't it wonderful? Don't get me wrong! I was thrilled when the power came back on, but still found it dif

It's Magic! 3/5/17

Abracadabra Monday March 5, 2018 "We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them." - Albert Einstein It's easy to fall into unconstructive behavior when your mind is running on default and frustration pulls you out of a routine and down the rabbit hole.  While operating in default has its benefits, the process will never serve you as an effective habit. It's simple to course correct and return the brain's thoughts back to positivity by developing a magic muscle.  What is that and how does one go about accomplishing this act? It's simple when you pull out a few magic tricks. Remember, you are the ringleader of your own circus.  In order to maintain an efficient day, having systems and habits in place allows you to fall into a default mode while interruptions disappear. Here are two behaviors you can employ immediately: Trick your brain    by subjecting it to a positive insigh

Serving one minced oath ~ 2/26/17

with a side of inoffensive expression Monday, February 26, 2018 Swap Out Your Words A minced oath is a euphemistic expression whose purpose is to replace a profane or objectionable word in the presence of “polite company.”  One might ask, just who is “polite company,” and why do we switch back to cursing at all?   There may be an occasion when a swear word just slips out.  Being positive people we work at improving our conversations every day. Not everyone is creative enough to come up with an alternate word, a rhyme or alliteration.  Another form of the minced oath can be fun when served in a game!  You might recall the TV show, Match Game that premiered on NBC in 1962.  The game featured contestants filling in the blanks in statements with the object being to match answers given by celebrity panelists. This is a perfect example of using the minced oath creatively to avoid TV censorship in the mid-20th Century.  Can you imagine the responses today? In recognitio

You will not win the game of tug-o-war 2/19/17

by merely standing firm Let's see who pulls stronger! Monday February 19, 2018    Creating success is a tug of war between your mind and your heart-your fears and your dreams.  If your fears win, you lose.  ~ Robert G Allen Today we celebrate the national sport known as Tug of War.  There are competitions all across the globe with a national body set up to govern the 50+ countries that participate. Tug of War can be viewed as a metaphor for every day life, as it is riddled with potential pitfalls.  There is the possibility of being pulled into the mud, suffering from back strain, or potential limb injuries (or loss) from looping the rope around a wrist.  In life we are continually traveling our path.  Eventually we come to a fork in the road that requires a decision.  Do we go with that which is grabbing our attention, looking like more fun, more challenging and possibly a bit of unknown danger?  Or do we stick with what we know
